Japanese Alphabet
Technically, it's probably not called an alphabet, but anyway, you need to know the sounds if you are going to learn the language. Below is a link to a really great song for hearing the Japanese alphabet. The kids already learned a different song last year, but I couldn't find the video for that, and I like this one better!

I will hand these out to the kids. However, if you'd like a digital copy, it is below. There may be better versions on the web. Google "romaji chart".

Writing Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana scripts
We will not be formally learning writing at the elementary level. The focus of primary grades Japanese is on speaking and effective communication. However, many students will want to learn Japanese script, and honestly, it is a great thing to know the kanji for the right train stop when lost in Tokyo! (I speak from experience.) Therefore, I will try to provide some extra credit or extra curriculum practice of some sort of kanji, hiragana, or katakana practice for motivated students. Below are a few good sites for either learning or researching Kanji.
